Chipmunk Horror Story
by Madeline Cole
As the deflated red balloon slowly fell to the ground, a chipmunk that had once admired its beauty started to tear up—not knowing how his once beloved prize was now diminished to a small red clump of latex on the ground. He looked around him wondering if anyone had noticed what had happened to his once beautiful and shiny red friend. If only he had been here when the tragedy had happened. His sadness now turned into fear—fear that the same tragic fate that happened to his friend, might just happen to him. “But where would I hide?” the chipmunk thought. His tiny heart started to pound as he looked around trying to find the perfect hiding place. Unfortunately, he knew he couldn’t be very particular because the only hiding place around was a ripped, half open, soda can sitting high on a nearby ledge. Even though he had his doubts, he knew he had to find a way inside. As he slipped inside the cramped can, he was able to bury his head within the top so no one outside could see him. Where was the cold-blooded murderer that took away his little red friend? Could it have seen him? Could it be watching him right now? Could it be approaching? All these questions raced through his tiny mind as he waited for his imminent demise. He realized he had begun to feel quite uncomfortable. Some type of material was pressing onto his back. He wiggled and wiggled to try to turn to see what was pressing into him. As he was able to get his head fully turned around, he caught a glimpse of a small piece of red, rubbery, fabric clinging onto the sharp half ripped part of the can. The tiny rodent’s heart dropped as he realized that he was inside of the murderer the entire time. If only there had been just one other place to hide.
