Highlighting the Best Writers

The goal of Clumsy Spider Press is to publish writers for youth who stand out from the crowd and hopefully aid them in the path to mainstream publishing. The competition among writers is fierce and often discriminatory. The publishing business can be a soul-crushing entity. Perhaps you feel straitjacketed by the conventions and trends of our time. Many literary agents and editors will claim that it is the writing alone that drives their decisions, but in fact the odds are set against any writer without a previous societal stamp of approval. *(Check out the article below by Theodore Ross).

Our goal is to give a few, truly exceptional writers a place to land. You won't make much money** by publishing your piece here, but if this idea develops in the way that we hope, you will have at least one unique stamp of approval to bring to your resume.

For young readers--middle grade through new adult--this will be a place to find a story so addicting that video games and social media will be put aside. Perhaps they will love your story so much they will be compelled to share it!
As I expect you are waiting for the shoe stuffed with fifty dollar bills to drop, I will address that question right here. Submission and publication will cost you nothing. Contests and vanity publishers that charge the writer money reveal yet another inequity in the literary world.

The only risk you take here is that your work may not be chosen. Because of the requirement that you submit anonymously, at least you will know it isn't because you don't have "a name," a social media following, a degree, or a prestigious literary award to influence your reader's decision.

The final due date for the first set of submissions is Friday July 31, 2020. If your piece is ready, submit it now. If not, get going and be sure to mark your calendar!

Peaceful journey,

Clumsy Spider Publishing

**I wish I had a bigger bank account to fund this project. I do believe that payment for our selected writers is essential. It is the best I can do to show respect for the author and his/her/their creative energy. For that reason, I'll be paying $20 per selected piece.

Now that we've had over 1400 submissions, we've added Google AdSense in hopes we could make enough money to cover the cost of publishing more of the strongest entries. Right now, we are still paying directly out of our own pocket. If you can come through here when you want to buy something, you might help us get on a path to publishing more of these strong pieces that are rising to the top (but being left for the time being due to financial constraints). It's a long shot, but it doesn't hurt to try! The one thing we insist on is that writers don't pay here -- they get paid!
